What is laser skin resurfacing and what conditions does it treat?

Laser Skin Resurfacing uses a specific wavelength of laser energy that targets the water in skin cells thereby “vaporizing” and selectively removing the outermost layers of the skin, specifically the epidermis and variable portions of the dermis, depending on the depth of treatment. The energy applied stimulates healthy new skin rejuvenation and the associated dermal heating adds a benefit of collagen shrinkage and dermal remodeling.

Many conditions can be improved through laser skin resurfacing, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Sun-weathered skin
  • Age spots
  • Brown spots
  • Scars
  • Laxity

Dermal tightening, and the formation of new cells in the healing process, results in diminished fine lines and wrinkles, improved overall skin texture and overall smoother, softer, healthier and younger looking skin.

What is a MicroLaserPeel and why is it considered an improved method of laser skin resurfacing?

The proven benefits of laser resurfacing for the treatment of surface skin conditions are now better than ever with the “MicroLaserPeel”.

Because the MicroLaserPeel (MLP) is an intra-epidermal laser treatment that precisely ablates the outermost layers of the skin to an exact depth, the amount of “downtime” can be adjusted to the specific condition being treated, the desired result and the patient’s available time for recovery.  MLP treatments can vary from a light “NanoPeel” to refresh and restore a clear skin surface, to a deep Laser Peel to significantly reduce lines around the mouth, or remove acne scars.  MLP technology also offers the option of a series of light peels to gradually reach the desired results with little or no downtime.

What is ‘fractional’ laser skin resurfacing and what advantage does it have over deep ablative treatments?

Unlike deep full-field resurfacing, which removes the entire surface area of a treatment site, ProFractional resurfacing creates clean, narrow-diameter, micro-ablated channels in the skin to a chosen depth, covering a ‘fraction’ of the total treatment area. This action activates collagen production and initiates the body’s wound-healing response while leaving the surrounding tissue intact for rapid healing.

The benefits of ProFractional include increased patient comfort, shorter healing times, and tunable results that can range from subtle to dramatic. ProFractional Laser Resurfacing results in increased skin tension and firmness and is the treatment of choice for acne scars, deep wrinkles and vertical "smoker's" lines around the mouth.

Profractional treatments start with a full-field MLP of variable depth to remove superficial irregularities, followed by specific areas and depths of ProFractional ablation that reach deep into the skin layers to break down scar tissue and stimulate collagen remodeling.

The combination of MLP and ProFractional resurfacing offers the best of both worlds: incredible results and minimal downtime! If you want a treatment plan that’s going to restore your skin and make you look years younger, book an appointment at the Fisher Medical & Aesthetics Center today.
