The process of “PhotoRejuvenation” with BroadBand Light (BBL) also known as Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or FotoFacial, uses the energy of multiple wavelengths of light that reach below the surface of the skin to specifically target the pigment melanin or brown spots and the hemoglobin in the blood vessels or “redness” caused by broken capillaries. The “Photothermal” pulsed energy delivered spares the surface but reaches the deep layers of the skin where it also stimulates collagen production and skin tightening.
BBL is the perfect choice for a broad range of conditions from sun damage and aging, including pigmented lesions or brown spots, vascular lesions and redness or Rosacea, as well as, large pores, fine lines and skin laxity. Since this process reaches targets in different layers and depths of the skin without damaging the surface, treatments result in a restored, clearer, more youthful complexion with no “downtime”. The individual patient’s condition and skin type determines the specific energy and wavelengths used and the number of treatments needed for maximum results. BBL is effective anywhere on the body, with the most commonly treated areas being the face, neck, chest, hands and arms.
Sessions take approximately 30 minutes per area treated and with topical anesthesia and appropriate cooling, there is minimal or no discomfort. Mild redness and a hot ‘sunburn’ feeling are common immediately after treatment, last for a few hours and are easily relieved by applying cool compresses and moisturizing sun-block. The treated areas of redness fade almost instantly, brown spots appear darker (like “speckles” under the skin) for several days and then disappear naturally and skin texture, fine lines and pore size improve gradually over 2 to 3 weeks as new collagen is produced. Best results are achieved with a series of 3 to 5 treatments.
The idea of reversing aging by restoring and maintaining the quality of young skin has been the goal of non-invasive, cosmetic dermatology for decades. Finally, as confirmed by a Stanford University Study of the effects of BBL on Skin cells, we have scientific evidence that, treatments using BBL energy, when used repeatedly, promote increased genetic activity in the “turn on” genes of youthful skin. Whether skin is maintained with treatments targeting redness and brown spots (BBL) or collagen remodeling (SkinTyte), with maintenance treatments, this process can truly keep skin “FOREVER YOUNG”.
